Welcome to LPG Plant Design Wiki!
I have taken the opportunity to take a step forward in international collaboration surrounding the subject of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) plant design. This wiki will by used by top engineers/innovation enthuasiasts/students who want to contribute to the future of LPG plants. LPG is already big, but it's going to be even bigger soon, so we have enough time for incremental changes, innovative ideas and comments. Combining the powers of many minds we will make hard work, easy. We will make mountains turn into prairies. We will turn stone into water. Let the wiki begin!!!
Short Term Goal:
The temporary goal of the wiki is to support 2 students in their challenge to design the cleanest LPG plant ever designed. This challenge has been put upon them by Technologisch Gezelschap. The Technologisch Gezelschap is the student association for students Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology. In December 2005 the Technologisch Gezelschap celebrates her 115th anniversary. As a part of this 23rd Lustrum a range of different event will be organised. One of which is the design of a new LPG plant. We plan to win this competition, not only by using the best technology making it easy to work independant of each other, but also by mass collaboration within Alembic, our holy student association.
A good way to start is by looking at the history of lng/lpg. Take a look and soakup some info.
First problem... what is the difference between LPG/LNG ... most people say there isn't a difference. Well unfortunately there are differences. LNG is liquid natural gas, which has to be cooled to be compressed, containing only the lightest components (methane and ethane, occassionally a little propane (minimal amounts)). LPG is liquid petroleum gas, a combination of the heaviest gases (propane, butane, pentane). These can be compressed without cooling apparatus. LPG is current being implemented in vehicles.
